Principles of Community Design by Macdonald Architecture & Technology
Macdonald Architecture & Technology offers decades of experience in green & environmentally conscious residential design. Please see our Community Gallery for more.

Each community, whether it is a church, group of tenants, or children and their teachers, has a communal spirit - a connection between its members beyond the simple transactions to which they are party. This community spirit can be nourished and sustained by the structure which contains it. The sustainment of community spirit involves creation of design concepts which engage people, not only in organization and planning, such as circulation space with places to stop and talk, but also in the substance of a building, its feel, its textures, its volume, shape, colors, and spiritual space.

Macdonald Architecture & Technology brings years of design experience to community construction, including specialty project design such as day care centers, elderly housing, and religious centers. Angus W. Macdonald, chief architect, has worked with HUD programs for affordable community and elderly housing, with private companies to design assisted living centers, with educational corporations to create affordable and effective day care centers, and with church groups to transform ordinary buildings into exciting and dynamic religious communities. His knowledge of HUD Minimum Property Standards and IBC Chapter 34 standards for conversion of existing buildings facilitates effective and efficient design and timely permit approvals. Macdonald developed and uses his own program to compute Chapter 34 points required in change-of-use submissions.
